The City of Riverside required street improvement mitigation measures
to Allessandro Boulevard as part of the Metropolitan
Water District (MWD) water transmission pipeline installation project. The street improvements
included temporary and permanent improvements to 2-miles of Alessandro Boulevard from
Mission Grove Parkway to Sycamore Canyon. The project was completed in two phases. The project
added a new lane in both directions.
Phase 1 included widening of the roadway to provide traffic handling during the pipeline construction.
Traffic was diverted to the southerly (eastbound) portion of the road. Temporary improvements
included median removal and paving, curb removal and paving, traffic signal modifications (at four
locations), irrigation system modifications, and slope grading.
Phase 2 included restoring the roadway pavement sections, widening the roadway to provide three
travel lanes in each direction, installation of raised center medians, drainage installations and modification, traffic signal modifications, and irrigation system
