State Route 125 Design-Build Project

Civil Works Engineers prepared the Storm Water Data Report (SWDR) and Water Pollution Control plans for the SR-125 project. The SR-125 project was a design-build contract to construct a new north/south tollway. The overall tollway project begins near the SR-54 at Sweetwater Valley and ends near the US-Mexico border at I-905, crossing the ridge tops and valley of eastern Chula Vista. The portion of the project covered by the SWDR and plans consisted of the construction of 14.0 km of a new four-lane tollway from Otay Mesa Road (Route 905) to the Route 125 Gap Connector at San Miguel Road. The project included five interchanges, two undercrossings, and one overcrossing. The project was recently constructed under a design-build contract by the California Transportation Ventures (CTV) through a Development Franchise Agreement with Caltrans. The SWDR was prepared for the second stage of the project, the SR-125 South Toll Road project, which is divided into 3 segments; Segment 1A, Segment 3B, and Segment 3C. The preparation of the SWDR involved coordination with Caltrans NPDES Coordinator, Landscape Architecture, Maintenance, Hydraulics, Environmental units, the State RWQCB, and the design-build team. Water Pollution Control plans were prepared for Segment 1A only.

Treatment BMP’s used for the project included bioswales, extended detention basins, and small footprint devices. Water Pollution Control BMPs used included temporary concrete washout, fiber rolls and bonded fiber matrix on slopes.
